From a iron forge to a modern industry group
Ankarsrums Bruk, one of the oldest companies still active in Sweden, was founded as a forge in 1655. The site subsequently expanded with blast furnaces and a rolling mill, and during the 19th century Ankarsrum started to manufacture iron cookers, radiators and stoves.
In the early 20th century, Ankarsrum was a leading supplier of wood and gas fired stoves. With the onset of electricity in modern homes, household appliances such as electric stoves, ovens and washing machines propelled Ankarsrum to the forefront of household appliance brand names. Electrolux acquired Ankarsrum in 1968, shifting production focus to electric motors and transformation of Ankarsrum to FHP Elmotor AB in 1990.
Since then, a unique competence has been established in design of electric motors, while still keeping the end product application knowledge. This gradual growth from a small iron works to a modern company is visible everywhere - in the buildings themselves to the present production and product range.
AB Traction acquired FHP Elmotor 2001 and recaptured the former name Ankarsrum Industries. A reorganisation 2009 meant that Ankarsrum Motors AB and Ankarsrum Die Casting AB was formed. The focus today is mainly on research and development and manufacturing of dc- and ac-motors within Ankarsrum Motors AB as well as on die casted parts in aluminium within Ankarsrum Die Casting AB.
